Just popping down to Italy for lunch….

Vipiteno
Yes that’s right, on Sunday, we drove to Italy for lunch!  There’s a lovely village called Vipiteno just over the border about half hour drive south of Innsbruck.  Just before we got there we realized we hadn’t brought our passports but it wasn’t a problem as there was no border checking going on and we just drove straight through!  It cost us E20.00 in road tolls though.
We expected a bit more Italiano flare but everything was written in German first and then Italian, as I guess it’s not that far and a lot of Austrian’s and German’s go there for holidays.  I wanted to get a photo of the Italian flag in the background but couldn’t actually find one!  Good job we took a change of clothes as it was freezing in the morning when we left and warmed up to 30 degrees by lunch time!  We’re still not used to the changeable weather, it’s like four seasons in one day!  Anyway we had a lovely pizza (even Amelia ate it and that’s saying something!) and some chocolate gelato before heading back to our campsite for a swim.
And tomorrow, off to Switzerland……

  1. Vipiteno, there is a lot of history to this small town just over the border, has a lot to do with France and Germany. The folk who live there are neither Italians or German like the Sardinian folk
they like to keep themselves seperate and class themselves as a folk in their own right. Its a long story, but will keep in mind when we get to together again to tell all about it. Thats if you haven´t read up about it before.

So glad to hear your having a nice time, you should have carried on for a couple of hours more then you would have reached Malo where you could have visited your cousin Amber and family.
Then carried on down to Livorno caught the ferry
across to Sardinia and visited us over here ha! ha!
You´d have no trouble with the weather it been around 32degr. for the last couple of weeks, need only bathing/swim suits and flip flops.

The blog is great so keep it coming with lots of interesting things you have been up too.. and maybe see you again in the near future
lol xxx Sue, Frank Curly (will be clipped today because of the hot weather) and Chips
